Impulse Heat Sealers: Their Advantages & How to Choose the Right One

Are you relatively new to the packing business and need a fast and reliable way to seal plastic bags? In that case, a heat sealer is a perfect solution for you. A heat sealer is a machine that uses heat to seal a variety of thermoplastic materials such as polyethylene including HDPE, LLDPE and PE, PVC, polyethylene terephthalate, aluminium foil, metallized polyester or cellulose foil. However, it's most commonly used for sealing plastic bags for product packaging.

Today, there are two types of sealers on the market – direct heat sealers and impulse heat sealers. Both types can quickly shut bags, however, impact heat sealers are usually the preferred choice for packaging. The reason for this is because direct heat sealers can be very impractical and even dangerous to use. They use constant heat to seal plastic which means that the sealer is constantly hot, presenting a hazard for workers.

On the other hand, impulse heat sealers don't warm up a lot. In fact, they use short, precise impulses of electricity to shut the bag tight. Once the sealing is finished, these machines quickly cool down. This means that the chance of being burned is minimal. And due to the high precision of an impulse heat sealer bags can be given a smoother and more professional appearance, thus enhancing the attractiveness of your products.

These heat sealers also feature a simplistic design that makes them easy to use. As opposed to direct heat sealers, they do not need to be set up in a complex way nor do you have to wait for them to heat up. Many of them also come with electronic timers allowing you to accurately control the sealing cycle. What's more, some even feature a specification timer that shows the seals cooling period allowing you to create very accurate seals. Therefore, by using an impulse heat sealer bags made of polyethylene are hermetically closed and airtight, protecting your products against outside factors.

Another advantage of impulse heat sealers is that there are many models available to choose from. They can vary both in size and features. So, depending on your needs, you can opt for a machine that's able to produce either a 200mm, 300mm, 400mm, or 500mm seal. However, if you want to create custom-sized bags, a sealer with a cutter option can be a smart choice. A sealer with cutter allows you to easily cut custom-sized bags from rolls of plastic and similar material.

What's more, you can also choose between hand sealers or foot sealers. Hand sealers are lightweight and portable, making them easy to move around. On the other hand, foot sealers are used for large-scale sealing operations where both hands are needed to position the bags. These machines feature a pedal that can be pressed to bring down the sealing bar.
